This program is intended for supporting research areas that need strengthening in the scientific arena in Israel, through research grants for post-doctorates for continuing their studies abroad. The higher education councilīs committee for planning and budgeting initiated this program and funds it. The candidates are presented by the universities and commit to return to Israel no more than four years after leaving. Up to six fellowships are approved annually.
At the first stage a one or two year fellowship is provided for the period of the advanced studies abroad. At the second stage a grant is given for one year to help the grantee receiving tenure track position in Israel upon completing his/her post-doc training and returning to Israel (50% of the salary cost and a research grant).
Following the recommendation of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities the areas chosen for the years 2008-2009 are interdisciplinary science, systematics and taxonomy.
