The Legacy Heritage Biomedical Centers of Excellence program is intended to enhance support of those researchers who have received grants of the Legacy Heritage Biomedical initiative supporting scientific medical research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and genetic disorders, and its objectives are:
• Encouraging interdisciplinary cooperation and research initiatives.
• Promoting broad research activity, at the highest level, in the field of neurodegenerative diseases and genetic disorders.
• Development of innovative research on the above topics..

The purpose of the Centers of Excellence grant is to encourage and facilitate the cooperation between the groups which won a Research Fellowship in addition to the grant received by each group. The grant is given for a period of three years and is up to an amount of $100,000 per year to the center of excellence that includes three research groups. In cases where there are more than three research groups from different institutions, there will be considered the possibility additional funding.
The ISF´s share is up to 85% of the total amount of the grant, while the institution is to commit to funding the remaining 15%.
