This program is enabled thanks to Legacy Heritage Fund of New York that was created to commemorate Bella and Harry Wexner who dedicated their lives and their fortune to support the welfare of the Jewish people in Israel and throughout the world.
The aim of this ISF program in cooperation with the Legacy Heritage Fund, is to raise the level of clinical research in Israel, by building a core of academically active clinicians at university-affiliated hospitals throughout the country, who have demonstrated outstanding clinical research talent in the context of a post residency fellowship, and by establishing the precedents of "protected time" and “clinical physician-investigator“ for hospital-based physicians. Funding for both Salary Support (Protected Time Grant) and Research Support (Research Grant) shall be up to $40,000 each per year. The Participating Hospital shall provide matching funding in the amount of 20% of each of these grants. Funding of the Protected Time Grant and for the Research Grant will generally run for up to three years. Each Participating Hospital can submit up to eight candidates. Each proposal will be submitted by an individual researcher in an area of Clinical Research. The last year of the program was 2011.
