This program is enabled thanks to Legacy Heritage Fund of New York that was created to commemorate Bella and Harry Wexner who dedicated their lives and their fortune to support the welfare of the Jewish people in Israel and throughout the world.
The objective of the Legacy Heritage Science Initiative (Morasha) program is to facilitate the return to Israeli universities of outstanding Israeli scientists completing post doctoral fellowships abroad by providing funding, on a matching basis from participating Israeli universities, for one-time lab establishment or other start up grants ("Start Up Grants") and three-year annual follow-up research support (īResearch Grantsī) The scientific areas to be covered by the LHSI Program are life sciences and exact sciences. Funding for Start Up Grants will be on a one-time basis, up to $600,000 for experimental scientists and up to $100,000 for theoretical scientists. Funding for Research Grants will generally run for up to three years and range from up to $25,000 per year for theoretical scientists and up to $50,000 year for experimental scientists. Each University may submit 3 candidates - two experimental scientists and one theoretical scientist.
The last cycle of this program was operated in 2010.
